Dr. Olga Mohan Competes in Students Run LA

By Angela Ramirez

Every year “Student Run Los Angeles (SRLA)” has over 3,000 students from grades 7-12 that takes part in the Los Angeles marathon. The training for students begins in September and every month following September the runners participate in races throughout Los Angeles. The SRLA website says: “In 2013, 99% of the students who started the marathon finished the full 26.2 mile course.”

SRLA challenges students to stay active and continue running regardless of the struggles they may face. It allows students “to experience the benefits of goal-setting, character development, adult mentoring, and improve health by provide them with a truly life changing experience.”

Here at Dr. Olga Mohan High School, Mr. Kim, the team leader, agrees that running and training for a marathon helps our students with character development and that it shows students how to set goals. Mr. Kim also says that the SRLA team is more of a family then a team. Everyone is there to support each other and encourage each other to work their hardest.

If you would like to know more about SRLA or donate go to www.srla.org. If you would like to donate to the school’s team you can bring healthy snacks and waters to the front office and your parents will receive service hours.
